A young man of 22 years of age was at home in LaPorte, Indiana with his mother. He was watching television and the mother was on the computer. The son was put into a rage and began smashing things and beating his mother. He broke the phone and cell phone so she could not call for help. The mother locked herself in the bathroom and the son proceeded to knock the door down, used a piece of wood from the door jamb to beat her for several minutes and then tried to poke her eyes out. The father arrived home just about that time and stopped the boy and called the police. As he was being taken away he kept saying the Son Of Sam told him to do it.
Three months prior he put his mother in a choke hold almost killing her when he was stopped. Again upon being taken away by police he kept saying that he was Jesus.
My question is why did they let him out the first time. Isn't what he did attempted murder?
This time it says that he MAY get 12 years in jail. Is that enough for what he did? Shouldn't there be some sort of mental treatment or testing he should have to go through?
At any rate it is good that he is behind bars now where he can do no harm to his mother or anyone else.

MIRACLES DO HAPPEN

In the post prior to this I said my daughter in Texas wished she had our snow. She moved to Killeen in July from Shiner which is farther south. Being north she didn't know what kind of winter she was in store for. As I said she wished she had our snow and have a white Christmas.
About noon today she called today screaming into the phone "its' snowing it's snowing." She said it was coming down pretty good and maybe they will have a white Christmas.

MY DAUGHTER MISSES COLD AND SNOW.

I keep telling my daughter who lives in Texas about the sleet, rain, ice and snow we have here for the holidays and she says she wishes she was here to enjoy it. Enjoy? You have got to be kidding. Then she goes on to tell me about the 70 degree temperatures they have and how it just doesn't seem like Christmas. I think I could handle that kind of Christmas. She and the kids have been down there seven years now and have not seen snow since they left. Sure wish we could send this stuff down her way.

NEARLY DONE

With Christmas just two day away hopefully everyone is done or almost done with shopping and wrapping. I know these thing can be very stressful but you have to take it easy. Easier said than done, right.
I can say that all of my shopping and wrapping is done. I am having family and friends over on Christmas day for dinner, visiting and present exchange. As for the dinner part I am going food shopping today to get, hopefully, everything I need to have a great meal. I have ordered a sugar spiral ham from Heavenly Ham, so that takes care of the meat part but there are still the little odds and ends needed to make a great Christmas meal.

IT SNOWED LAST NIGHT.

When I woke this morning much to my wondering eyes appeared a blanket of white indicating that it had snowed during the night. What a lovely sight. I can say this because I don't have to go to work because I as retired. My granddaughter Delaney was excited beyond words, she wanted to go out and play in it. This is OK but not a 6:15 a.m.. There is a snow removal service for our area but Delaney, being 8, wanted to shovel snow and of course play in it. I live in a duplex and my neighbors are up in age and she was out shoveling her drive way because he just had back surgery and has trouble with it. I told Delaney to go help my neighbor who had just shoveled a path the the mail box and went back into the house. About a half hour later I checked on Delaney and much to my surprise she had shoveled my neighbors entire drive-way. Great job for a little 8 year old weighing about 50 pounds. It gave me a warm feeling to see that she cared about others and wanted to help.
God does produce little angles.

SOLD SOME OLD GOLD

With the price of gold going up and up, one would think that they have a fortune sitting in their dresser drawers or safe deposit boxes. I had such a thought when I took in my class ring from high school and some other old pieces of what I thought was gold.
In taking these pieces of jewelery to a jeweler I found out that these were only thoughts of grandeur and even thought the price of gold in over $1000.00 don't expect to get that much. Some of the pieces were gold plated so they were rejected and a beautiful silver piece with pearls turned out to be costume jewelry. My thoughts of receiving a lot of money quickly was smashed as the final tally was presented to me on a piece of paper. I guess the expression on my face told the clerk of my disappointment as the figure on the sheet of paper read $223.41.
I accepted that amount keeping in mind that it was only junk jewelry trying to keep any sentimental feelings at bay.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE FOOD OR PEOPLE, JUST LEAVE.

There are a lot of strange people who do strange things in our world. Things happen on a regular day and things happen on a holiday when friends and family get together, for instance Thanksgiving. Like I said in my title, if you don't like the food or people, just leave.
This happened in Jupiter, Florida. There had been an ongoing resentment among family members. The family sat down and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. It did not appear that there was an altercation prior to this incident.
After dinner, Paul Michael Merhige of Miami left briefly before returning with a gun and killing his pregnant sister, 6 year old cousin and two other relatives. Wounded by this idiot was his pregnant sisters twin and his 79 year old aunt.
This will be a Thanksgiving that will be long remembered by the family and I hope he will remember it while sitting in a jail cell for the rest of his life.

PAYING HIS LAST RESPECTS TO AN OLD FRIEND

A man was on his way to the funeral of a dear friend. On the way there he was arrested for drunken driving after he lost control of his truck and crashed it into a ditch in Hobart, Indiana.
His excuse (maybe it is true) was that a deer ran out in front of him and he swerved to miss it and crashed into the ditch.
Never the less do you show up a friends funeral drunk. I wouldn't but I guess some people do.

TODAYS THE DAY - I THOUGHT

Today is Sunday, five days before BLACK FRIDAY the mega shopping day for all the Christmas specials presented by our local shopping stores, Wal-Mart, Sears, Target and any other store wanting to make a killing on this day. People will be lined up at 3 and 4 in the morning even though the doors to these stores won't open until 5 or 6.

Getting back to Sunday. I arose at about 6:30 a.m. and realized that this was Sunday and the day all the sale papers would be thick with sale items. Instead of sleeping in I dragged myself to the kitchen and started a pot of coffee then dragged myself to the front door to get the Sunday paper. The paper was nice and thick and I imagined all of the good things inside. I pulled the paper from it's plastic sleeve and set it on the kitchen table like I do every morning (it's like a ritual). Took blood sugar count, blood pressure and fixed myself a cup of coffee. I went to the table and separated the sale papers from the rest of the paper and much to my surprise there were very few sales. Then I remembered. Thursdays paper will be the one with all of the sale papers. I guess I could have slept in.

WHERE WERE THEY GOING?

Three people were injured on Tuesday. How did they get injured? It all revolves around a 19 year old driver driving at a high rate of speed according to police. The vehicle crashed into a tree and then rolled over into a yard in Hobart, Indiana after it went off the road on a sharp turn.
In the car were four occupants. The 19 year old driver and three juveniles. Three of the occupants were taken to the hospital.
Where were they going? They were on their way to return a movie at a video store. I don't know if it was late or what but I think that the price they paid was far more that a late fee on the video.

BAD SHOPPING SEASON

Here it is, not even Thanksgiving yet and already Wal-Mart and Target are crying that it is going to be a bad season for sales. They are not thinking about the religious aspect of the Holiday season nor the world situation with the wars and economy, it's just people are not spending enough money in their stores that buy goods from foreign countries and screw the American workers. If possible (and I know it's hard) we should shop at stores that sell American made products and really hear them cry.
Remember when BLACK FRIDAY was the kickoff of the shopping season? We would be in front of these stores at 4 and 5 in the morning to get the SPECIAL DEALS. It was kind of a tradition to do this. Now every Friday is black Friday with a black Saturday and black Sunday and your lucky is they have at least 3 of the big special deal items in the store. Read the fine print, only three per store or whatever.
They don't care where people get the money to spend just as long as we do it. Take out a loan or borrow from a relative or friend. Just make Wal-Mart happy.

When I went to elementary (grammar) school back in the 40's, things were a lot different than what they are now. Principals were trim and proper and when you saw them you knew they were the boss and God forbid that you would be called down to their office for some infraction. WHAT KIDS WON'T DO TO KEEP BUSY

The other day my granddaughter Delaney said she was bored. Tons of toy, books and games in the house and she is bored. I told her to look around and she would find something to do. She did find something. Big plastic cups. I was in the other room so all I heard was the sound of plastic hitting together. It was about 15 minutes later and she said "grandpa come here I have something to show you". I went into the living room and say the fruits of her labor, that being a cup sculpture, as she called it, made of cups she found in one of the cabinets.
Just goes to show you what a child can do when they are bored although they have toys, books and games to play with.
She played with those cups for well over two hours.

Friday I was watching the new Newly Wed Game, which I happen to like. To my surprise and amazement they had a couple of gay guys on there as contestants. Im sorry folks but this to too much. Every time they got a answer right they would kiss. No thanks. I am no longer a watcher of the Newly Wed Game. I would rather watch a show about dumping garbage.

WHATS GOING ON?

The other night there was nothing on TV so I decided to watch a NetFlix movie on the computer. I was sitting there going through and many movies one can watch when all of sudden my computer locked and I had to shut down. It was late so I didn't bother with it. Next morning I could not get on the Internet. I tried everything. Finally called ATT and they had to send a repairman out to my home. It turned out to be a bad modem. The man fixed it.
Sitting watching TV and noticed that my furnace wasn't working properly. I don't like when that happens. Called NIPSCO and they sent a repairman who fixed it.
Both things happened on the same day. Both things were fixed on the same day and the nice thing about it was that there was no charge for either fix.

REALLY HATE TO CLOSE UP/

Around the 19th of October the campground is shutting the water off which means that the park is closed and we will have to leave for the winter and return next April. I will miss sitting on the deck looking out onto the lake and drinking my coffee and just relaxing. But there is always next year God willing.

SUMMER IS GONE - ALMOST

Fall is just round the corner that is why we, at the campground, are having Halloween this weekend and Thanksgiving next weekend. This weekend we will have a candy fly over where they will throw over 10,000 pieces of candy from a plane and when all candy hits the ground the kids will be allowed to run into the field and gather up as much candy as they can. Of course everyone will be kept out of the area during the dropping. There will also be games, a haunted trail and a dance that will bring this weekend to a close.
Next weekend will be Thanksgiving weekend and we will all bring something and feast the day away.
After these two weekends that's pretty much the end of the regular season a Yogi Bear because he goes to sleep for the winter.
I will sure miss going there on the weekends and sitting on my deck looking out over the lake having a cup of coffee. Oh well there will be another season.

ANOTHER TALK SHOW

TALK SHOWS, TALK SHOWS. OK folks, do we really need another talk show? I never liked Jay Leno on the Tonite Show at 10:30 and now they take up an hour of prime time television to put his show on. Give me a good mystery to watch. Who wants to sit there and listen to everyone kissing each other butts to stay friends with each other or hear about what a terrible childhood they had or how their divorce is coming along or about how they got beat up. Kanye West came on for a few minutes before he sang(if that is what you call it) and hardly said anything because he couldn't get the words out because he looked like he was on the verge of tears. What a JERK.
So as I said before, do we need another talk show????????

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

I am looking forward to tonight's America's Got Talent to see who America voted for. I think two that will not make it for sure are the piano player who sounded like he was hitting all of the wrong keys and the guy with the painted face who smashed the guitar.
The one person who should go on and should win the competition is Barbara Pidilla. Not only is she a pretty lady, but she also has a wonderful voice and sings from the heart.

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT AGAIN

Again tonight I watched one of my favorite shows, that being America's Got Talent. Last night the last 12 talents preformed and the judging began right after the show ended. My favorite was Barbara Pidia (I hope I spelled it right) who has survived cancer and has the voice of an angle. America did a great job in picking who should go through to the finals and one was Barbara.
There were two acts left which the act going through was picked by the judges. They were a 8 and 9 year old boy and girl dance team who were good and a 16 year old girl singer who was excellent. Well again David and Sharon had their heads where the sun don't shine and voted to put through the dance team. The girl singer, Mia, should have been the one picked. She appeared last year at age 15 and now has returned with all judges saying how she improved 10 times over and is certainly a star. What a gross error on the part of the judge. I am sure Mia will go forward with her dreams without the help of David and Sharon.

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

Did anyone happen to watch America's Got Talent on Wednesday night? I like that show because it has a variety of entertainment not like American Idol. "BORING".
As the show went on I pretty much agreed with the voting of America, but when it came to the end and the judges had to pick between a dog catching frisbee's and a young man who could sing and play the piano. I thought for sure they would pick the singer. Piers Morgan did, but what the hell were Hasselhoff and Sharon doing, sitting on their brain. How could they vote putting through to the next round a dog catching frizbee's and dropping many. Could an act like this be able to entertain and audience in Las Vega for an hour? I don't think so. I hope the judges make better decision in the future.

HEALTHCARE

Do you have health insurance? If not, why not. Don't need it, too expensive or someone else pays for it. Regardless folks we all need it. How should it be paid for. Should the employer pay for it or lets let the government take care of it. If the government took it over it would be a nightmare. How many people involved in this process would have their hands out for kick-backs? I sure it would be a lot.

GETTING CLOSE

The day that I will be leaving for Texas is getting close. That day is this coming Tuesday. Can't wait to hit the road. To me there is something exciting about driving and going to see someone special, that being my daughter and grand kids. My destination this time is not that hole in the wall town of Shiner with a population of 2017 but to Killeen with a population many, many times more and is near Fort Hood. Killeen is also near Dallas and Austin.
Hope to go to Houston to the Space Center, maybe get to a zoo too.
Looking forward to seeing and doing fun things with the kids.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

This was not a very good week for the entertainment world. Two people who have contributed much to the entertainment world left us, they being Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett. Farrah made her mark in the world, if I am correct, in the movie The Burning Bed and Ed as Johnn Carson's sidekick for years introducing Johnny with "Heeeeeeeer's Johnny" on the Tonite show that eventually went to Jay Lenno. Later Ed hosted "Star Search".
They will be missed and remembered. God Bless.

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

I don't know about you but there are certain programs that I look forward to coming back on. Some being The Apprentice, American Idol (auditions), Ninja Warriors just to mention a few. The one that I really enjoy coming back is America's Got Talent. What I like about it is that there is a variety of talent from young to old. In some cases whoever told these people that they could sing, dance or whatever else they do. On Tuesday there was a man who did impressions and everyone sounded just like the one before. At one point Piers said to Sharon, who the hell is he impersonating, he's done four voices and I didn't recognize any one of them. On the other hand there are some very, very talented people who appear on the show. Yes America does have talent and this is the show where they can show their stuff and possibly hit it big.

BIRTHDAY AT THE CAMPER.

I went up the my camper on Friday of last week to set up for the yard sale at Yogi Bear Resort in Plymouth Indiana. I was held on Saturday and I am sure a good time was had by all.
After everything was put away it was time to sit around the fire and tell stories of what was bought and what was sold. The following day was my birthday, turned 69, and of course all the women had to give me a birthday kiss and hug. I was sitting down and they bent over to accomplish this feat. The last women approached and grasped my head in her hands, gave me a big kiss on the forehead and proceeded to pull me forward into her low cut blouse which contained a perfect set of 46 D's. At that point I didn't think that I would see 70 years old. Ahhhh to be my age and have a young lady do that is the height of living.
The next night there were about 20+ people at the fire and seeing that it was my actual birthday day, my daughter bought a large cake and I was treated to the sounds of various off key voices singing happy birthday to me. Again I got hugs and kisses from the ladies but this time there were more of them. Can't wait for next year.

WHY AM I AWAKE?

Mercy sakes I was awake at 2:00 a.m. and couldn't go back to sleep. I tossed and turned but everything kept running through my mind. I watched a little tv and at 5:48 a.m. I find myself sitting here writing this blog. My granddaughter, Delaney, who I usually don't wake up for school until 6:45 is also wide awake watching cartoons. LAST HURRAH, I HOPE.

This past Sunday was filled with cold and Lot's of rain. With being almost in the middle of April, we keep getting teased with a warm day here and a warm day there. Soon I hope they will all be warm days.
As I said Sunday was a day of rain, rain, rain. In the evening I went to my son's house to watch some TV and eat pizza. It was raining when I got there and it was raining when we went to get the pizza. A few hours later when I left you could not see the ground for all the snow that had fallen. It was the really wet snow that makes for a good snowball fight. I wish my son had walked me to the car, I would have smacked him with a snowball, got in my car and drove off. Driving was terrible, you could hardly see the lines in the road. The next day it all melted and you would never know it happened.
Everyone says that, that was the last one for the year. I do remember some years back around mid April when we had an snow-ice storm that knocked out electric to hundreds of people for three to four weeks and some even longer.
Lets do hope that it is over and the flowers will bloom from now on.

ST PATRICK'S DAY MISCHIEF.

On Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day, my granddaughter Delaney jumped out of bed and was eager to get dressed because this was the day the kids could wear green. She wore tennis shoes, jeans and a bright green shirt with a glitter shamrock on the front and to top it all off she wore a four leaf clover shinny necklace.
Upon arriving at school the principal was making announcements that a leprechaun had been there during the night and caused mischief in all the rooms and the teachers and the rest of the staff were trying to catch him. When Delaney got to her room she saw that all of the desks and chairs had been turned over and gold chocolate coins as well as paper shamrocks were all over the floor. Throughout the day the children were told funny and scary stories about leprechaun's as well as the principal making announcements the the leprechaun had done this or that to his office and that they were still trying to catch him. With all of this going on, children were also telling scary stories that their parents had told them about leprechauns. When Delaney came home from school she was full of stories and a bit scared that she might see a leprechaun.
She kept looking behind furniture for him and gold coins that he might have left.
On the way to a Dr's appt. she was asking question after question about leprechaun's like would they hurt her, could they get into the car and would one be at the Dr's office. When night came she was really scared and I told her that when the sun went down they went away and would not return until next St. Patrick's Day. Thank God that worked. Prior to that no matter how many times I told her he was not real she just wasn't buying it. When she jumped into bed she said "you know, I had a good time today"
The next morning not a word was said about any leprechauns.

DO YOU KNOW YOUR BABYSITTER?

NEW ITEM: There is a couple in Veedersburg, Indiana who ran a babysitting business out of their home. Stephen Quick and Samantha Light are both being held on $100,000.00 bond as of Friday night in Fountain County Jail on preliminary charges of child molestation and child exploitation. When police searched their home they found a videotape depicting sex acts involving the couple and at least 4 different children between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old.
Does this not indicate that these two people are sick. What punishment will come from this and I hope it is not just a slap on the wrist. They should be locked up so that they cannot do this to any other children. It will be interesting to follow this case and see what the punishment is if the new media prints anything more about this case.

FUN FAIR

Last night I took my granddaughter to her schools Fun Fair. Tickets were 4 for a dollar and that money goes back to the school which is good. I must say that there was a great turnout with the temperatures in the low 60's. There were several games and plenty of food it you were inclined to eat there. Popcorn and the favorite of all were the snow cones. Those snow cone people worked their tails off and did a good job. There was a tank of water where the principal sat. The kids got a chance to throw a ball and hit the target which would start a shower of water onto him. The kids loved it and there were a lot of laughs. There was a huge slide to go down and a moon walk and both of these things were popular. Of course face painting was available. After about an hour and a half of being pushed and shoved and waiting in lines Delaney said "I think it's time to go". I had some tickets left and gave them away to 3 happy little girls. Delaney and I went to McDonalds for something to eat and then went home. A good time was had by all.

OPEN MOUTH - INSERT FOOT

Last night my granddaughter Delaney and me treated our self to one of our favorite places for dinner, that being The Old Country Buffet. It was dinner time so the place was crowded but that didn't mean the food was not good. I enjoy this place better than I do the Golden Corral. Golden Corral doesn't seem clean and is more disorganized. But anyway we chose a table and got out food. Delaney went up three times and ate it all. I could only do twice and once for desert. Getting to the title of my blog, when I finished my plate I set it off to the side and the fork fell off onto the floor. As I was reaching for it, a head bent down and picked and replaced it on my plate. I said "thank you sweetheart" noticing the long hair and upon standing up this kind young person said "I'm a boy". Next time I will just say thank you and let it go at that. I could not apologise enough.

TIME IS GETTING CLOSE!!!!!!

Time is getting close. Close to what you ask. Well lets see. Income tax (I have to pay this year), grass cutting time, don't have to do that the assiciation does that. Opening day for baseball, warm weather (looking forward to that)and with warm weather brings the opening of the Yogi Bear Camp Resort in Plymouth, Indiana where I have a camper. Well he said it again. How many times has he been right this year? The men in charge of the weather at the various TV stations in Chicago, that reach Northwest Indiana say there is a winter storm coming this way and will drop 6 to 8 inches of the white stuff on us beginning around 11 tonite and ending around 6 tomorrow night. I don't get out much during the week and this will ruin the party I am supposed to go to tomorrow night. I sure hope not. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends.
Anyway the weathermen always cry wolf. I sometimes wonder if this is a ploy to get people to go to the markets and stock up on food and drink and make money for the stores. Whatever it is, WE will do this and wake up several time during the night to see if the BIG storm has started painting our landscape white. It's beautiful but still a pain in the neck. THE "BIG" GAME

How many of you football fans are sick today. It was a good game, especially in the last quarter. Loved the 100 yard interception return by James Harrison and that spectacular catch by Santonio Holmes to win the game. Now lets get back to sick today. I'm not referring to if you lost money or the team you were yelling for won or lost, I'm referring to the intake of all the good food you ate and drinks you drank. IT'S GONA SNOW AND IT'S GONA GET COLD

On the television last night beginning at about 7:00 p.m., across the bottom of the screen all we saw was blizzard warnings until 12:00 p.m the following day then the cold temperatures we coming. WORRY AND WONDER

Worry and wonder what does he have. It was around the beginning of December when my daughter in Texas discovered a lump on the side of my grandson, Aiddins, neck. She made an appointment with the doctor who, after examining him ordered a few tests and x-rays and gave him some antibiotics to take for ten days saying that if the lump didn't go away in that period of time to bring him back. Well it didn't. Lorri brought him back and they did some extensive blood tests looking for any type of disease. They were really looking at him white cells. The family had to go thru Christmas with this thing hanging over their heads. What does he have, is it bad etc. They finally got the test results back after the holidays and it is determined that he has, get this, "cat scratch fever" and he also developed a cough which turned out to be mono. They live in the country and there are stray cats out there. I'm just waiting to hear what the game plan is for this situation. Hopefully it's a good one.
